　　當查爾斯因為家族的犯罪而被無辜判決死刑，西德尼竟然代替他去斷頭臺接受行刑。在生命與愛之間，他選擇了后者。他愛露西，為了她的幸福，他為她的愛人獻出自己的生命。當他走上斷頭臺的時候，面上依然保持著笑容，他信守對露西的諾言……因為，他的愛便是他的生命。此時此刻，我的腦海中想起了裴多菲的那首詩：“我愿意是急流/山里的小河/在崎嶇的路上/巖石上經過/只要我的愛人是一條小魚/在我的浪花中快樂地游來游去……”

　　盡管小說以一個意外的“大團圓”收場，但當讀者流著眼淚讀完該書時，卻感到無限的遺憾、心酸。有人說愛情是自私的，但在狄更斯的《雙城記》中，我卻能深深地感受到一種超脫世俗的最純潔、最崇高的愛。它隱藏在內心深處，但卻無比的深厚；它默默地承受煎熬，為的只是使心愛的人幸福；它總是無私地付出，而不求一點兒的回報。這種愛在無形中上升到一個新境界，永恒地放著凄美而迷人的光彩。
