　　With money we can buy many things indeed, but we can’t get knowledge, time, true love and so on. They are the most precious things in the world. If a person has got none of them, though he has a great deal of money, he is still poor.

　　In a way, people can do everything they like and can get whatever they want with money. But we must know clearly that money doesn’t mean everything. Money can’t bring us everything.

　　下午，還是萬里無云，大大太陽當空照。而我心情也一樣，因為我要去學英語了。在路上，媽媽千叮嚀萬囑咐：“說學英語一定要認真，一點也馬虎不得，不然，就學不好讀不準。”“哦，知道了。”我似懂非懂，懷著好奇的心情，不知不覺就來到了學英語的地方，在老師的指導下，來到了教室里。

　　過了一會兒，開始上課了。老師先教我們三個字母，還做了三個形狀。接著，老師又教我們蜜蜂、大海、樹的.單詞和音標，還做了手勢。同學們跟老師一邊讀單詞，一邊做手勢很快就學會了。老師見大家都會了，就玩了一個叫小火車的游戲，輪到我了，老師問：“樹怎么讀？”我張口就念了起來，老師說我念的不錯，還表揚了我。不一會兒，游戲結束了。老師又開始繪聲繪色地把課講了起來，大家也聚精會神地聽著。大概是第一次接觸英語的緣故，時間越長我就越聽越糊涂，還忘了好幾個單詞，回家還把字母、音標、單詞全搞亂了。暈！看樣子還要繼續(xù)努力呢！

　　In China, many people believe that some numbers can bring good luck, while some are often connected with misfortune. For example, number 6 in China usually means “doing things smoothly”, number 8 means “make a fortune”, and number 10 means “prefect”. While the number such as 4, usually means “death” because its pronunciation is similar with the Chinese character Si. Therefore, the superstitious people will try their best not to choose telephone numbers or car plate numbers or door numbers which are contain with 4. And the people usually will not have their wedding on 4th. People believe those numbers have magic power, which can bring them good luck or bad luck.

　　在中國，許多人相信一些數(shù)字能給人帶來好運氣，而另一些則不太吉利。比如說，數(shù)字6在中國表示“六六大順”；數(shù)字8表示“掙大錢，大家發(fā)”，數(shù)字10則表示“十全十美”。而數(shù)字4，因為其發(fā)音與中文中的“死”字相近，所以被認為不吉利。因此，迷信的人們盡量避免自己的電話號碼、車牌號碼或是門牌號碼含有數(shù)字4，人們通常也不會在4號舉行婚禮。他們相信，這些數(shù)字是有魔力的，能給人帶來好運氣或壞運氣。

　　In my humble opinion, I do not think these so-called lucky numbers can bring people good luck. Number stand for nothing but quantity. They are only some arbitrary symbols used for communication. Our ancestors created numbers for counting, not for luck. People believe number 8 can bring good fortune is only because the pronunciation of eight has almost the same sound of “fa cai” in Cantonese. The ironic part is the people who choose the number on purpose do not always make big money, while the people whose telephone numbers or car plate numbers contain 4 do not kick their buckets. Shakespeare said, “If we call a rose by any other name, it would smell sweet as well.” This means there is no connection between sound and meaning. So it’s no good to believe that number has something to do with the luck.

　　在我看來，我不認為這些所謂的“幸運數(shù)字”能給人們帶來好運。數(shù)字值代表數(shù)量。它們不過是一些為了溝通交流而產生的任意符號。我們的祖先創(chuàng)造數(shù)字是為了記熟而不是為了運氣。人們之所以相信數(shù)字8能給人帶來好運氣是因為“八”的發(fā)音與廣東話“發(fā)財”的`發(fā)音幾乎一樣。最諷刺的是那些故意選了數(shù)字8最為電話號碼、車牌號碼的人也沒有一直賺大錢發(fā)大財，而那些選擇了數(shù)字4的人也都活得好好的。莎士比亞曾說過：“如果我們把‘玫瑰’稱為其他的名字，它依舊香甜。”這意味著發(fā)音與詞義沒有很大的聯(lián)系。所以，一味的相信數(shù)字能帶來好運氣不是一件好事情。

　　To sum up, we should believe in our personal ability instead of so-called lucky numbers, as a proverb goes, “Man proposes, God disposes.”

　　總得來說，我們應該相信個人能力，而不是這些所謂的“幸運”數(shù)字。就像俗話說的那樣——謀事在人，成事在天。

　　我點點頭，答應了。開始，我什么都學不會，我就想起老師的話，認認真真的聽老師講課。爸爸、媽媽也多次重復這句話。于是，我下定決心，一定把英語學好。

　　我每天跟著錄音機一遍一遍地聽，一遍一遍說。經過一年的努力，我的英語成績趕上來了，每次讀、寫、背，老師總是說我進步了。課堂上，默寫是我們必須做的一件事，我讀幾遍，背幾遍，就可以熟練的'默寫下來了。我現(xiàn)在和以前的成績完全不同了。

　　我體會到，學一門課，做一件事，只要有信心，就一定能學好、做好。我現(xiàn)在的英語成績相當好。但是，我不能驕傲，必須更加努力地學習。

　　我學英語還有一個愿望，是等我長大上班以后，能夠和外國人對話。我將來想到外國建立一個公司，在外國推廣一種中國產品。
