　　My Hometown

　　My hometown is beautiful place It stands near a wide river at the foot of low GREen hills. It has many tall buildings and wide streets. There are trees and flowers everywhere.

　　But it has not always been like that. In the old days, it was a sad dirty little town. Landlords and merchants lived in the few good houses. For the working people there were only dark, unhealthy rooms in old buildings and huts in narrow muddy streets. Nearly everyone was poor and many had no work.

　　Everything has changed since liberation. The people, led by the Party, have got rid of the mud and dirt. They have put up schools, theaters, shops and flats. They have an assembly hall and a hospital. Along the river they have built offices, hotels and parks. A lot of factories have sprung up. On the river, streamers and boats come and go busily, day and night. They carry the products of our industries to all parts of the country.

　　I love my hometown, and I love its people. They also have changed. Healthy and happy, they are going all out to build socialism.

　　我的家鄉(xiāng)

　　我的家鄉(xiāng)是個美麗的地方。它座落在一座不高的綠色山腳下，一條寬闊的河流邊。有許多高聳的大樓和寬闊的街道。樹木和花草隨處可見。

　　但是它并不是一直如此。在舊社會，它是一個凄涼、骯臟的小鎮(zhèn)。地主和商人住在幾棟漂亮的房子里。勞動人民只能住在破舊、黑暗、不衛(wèi)生的房子里或是狹窄、泥濘街道旁的茅屋里。幾乎所有人都貧困，許多人沒有工作。

　　My hometown lies on the Plain of North China. The famous Grand Canal of China is to the east of our village. This is the place where my forefathers have lived for generations. When I was a boy I often played with other children near the bank of the canal. I watched the passing boats, and I wished to travel all over the world.

　　我的'家鄉(xiāng)位于華北平原。中國著名的京杭大運河是我們村莊的東邊。這是我的祖先們世世代代居住的地方。當(dāng)我還是個小孩時,我經(jīng)常和別的孩子在運河的岸邊上玩耍。我看著過往的船只,我想環(huán)游世界。

　　There are about 800 people in our village. A pond, teeming with fish, lies in front of the village. I used to swim there in summer and skate in winter. It was in this pond that I spent the happiest days of my childhood.

　　我們村子大約有800人。村子前面的一個池塘里充滿著魚。夏天的時候，我過去常常在那里游泳在，冬天的時候就滑冰。我童年最快樂的日子就是在這個池塘里。

　　To the north of our village are great fields. When spring comes, the crops begin to grow, turning the fields green. When crops turn yellow in autumn, the peasants start to harvest them.

　　我們村以北是偉大的田野。當(dāng)春天來時，莊稼開始生長，把整個田野變成綠色。當(dāng)莊稼在秋天變黃時，農(nóng)民就開始收獲了。

　　Between the canal and our village is an orchard. There were only a few kinds of fruit trees years ago, but now the peasants grow many sorts, including peach, plum, apple and orange.

　　我們村和運河之間是一個果園。幾年前只有幾種果樹，但現(xiàn)在農(nóng)民種植了很多品種，有桃、李、蘋果和橙。

　　The majority of the villagers have become much better off. About a quarter of the households have bought television sets and tape recorders. A reading-room and a library have been built. Every evening many young people go to the evening school to learn science and read newspapers.

　　大部分的村民生活已經(jīng)變好了。大約四分之一的家庭買了電視機(jī)和錄音機(jī)。一個閱覽室和一個圖書館已經(jīng)建成。每天晚上很多年輕人去夜校學(xué)習(xí)科學(xué)知識和閱讀報紙。

It seems that only in this way can rural people live a better life.

　　Paddy fields, the bottom is a winding river, the fish in the river happy swimming in the water, they are your head above water blowing bubbles, some in the play, and in chat...

　　Beside the small wildflowers are tall and big willow, willow seems to be played a happy dance in the breeze, like as the swallow song dance.

　　稻田邊是一條彎彎曲曲、清澈見底的小河，河里的魚兒在水中快活游來游去，他們有的把頭露出水面吹泡泡，有的在嬉戲，還有的在聊天……

　　小河的四周是一片穿著綠衣裳的大草地，那里開著五顏六色的小野花，把草地裝扮得五彩繽紛的，真美麗啊!

　　小野花的旁邊是一顆顆又高又大的柳樹，柳樹好像是在微風(fēng)中跳起了歡快的舞蹈，也好像是隨著燕子的歌聲翩翩起舞。

　　柳樹的下邊就是那些活潑、可愛的小朋友們，他們有的在跑步，有的在做游戲，還有的在采野花……那些小朋友們玩的可真開心呀!
