　　In our daily lives, we have many choices to make, such as what to eat forsupper,what clothes to wear, or what to do on weekends. at certain times in ourlives, we need to make even more critical choices, such as which school toattend, what job to take or who to choose as husband or wife. yes, life is amatter of choice. seemimgly, it means a choice of tangible things. but inessence, it means choosing a way of life. life is to be lived, savored, andenjoyed, not to be wasted or complained about.

　　Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the grave threat fromthe life-and-death disease--sars. yet, even during those dreadful times, someafflicted people remained optimistic. instead of wearing neutral white masks,some people turned to colouful ones, and thus display a happy mood. and somecreative people dubbed sars to mean "smile and remain smiling." i was deeplytouched by their optimisim, nearly forgetting that we're still in a battle.people who survive these kinds of circumstances, (at some point)decide in theirminds to carry on in spite of the overwhelming odds.

　　Laid-off workers, typically regarded as the victims of economicadvancement, are subject to desperation that being unmeployed has brought onthem. but, encouragingly, we have witnessed some of them striving hard torebuild confidence toward life and discover new opportunities for demonstratingtheir values.

　　Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoidunexpected disasters and adversities, we do have the privilege to choose to liveoptimistcally,to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherish hopes.

　　Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approachlife that day. as for me, i choose to be cheerful.

　　Today I’m glad that I’m standing here talking to you all. As the title given，I am going to talk you about a way of treating people and things in life. All in all，as if our emotions become much stronger，somehow we’realways trapped in circles and struggling against something that can’t be changedanyway. We complain about how fragile our friendship is，how little people knowabout us，how unfair the life is，etc. It seems that every time we fail，we blameit to the tough conditions we’re in，while never notice a problem insideourselves，that we’re never satisfied.

　　Let’s just imagine that there was an old lady. What she sees was herneighbors’ being mean again while not how kind they were when they took care ofher sick body. What she saw was her dog’s annoying barking while not how muchloyalty it had shown.What she saw was always so depressing that it finallyturned her into an unpleasant person. Think about how our life would be if westand in her shoe.

　　Why don’t we focus our attention on how much we’ve already got in stead? Youknow it’s really simple to do as there’s a tremendous amount of examples. 　　For our students，marks is above everything. Teachers will judge us from ourmarks. With marks we can be enrolled into junior middle schools. With marks，wecan be enrolled into senior middle schools. With marks we can be enrolled intocollege. With marks we can be enrolled into postgraduate and doctrine studies.Still with marks we can be graded and be allowed to go abroad for furtherstudies. Our parents will be strict with us with the marks. Our society judge usfrom marks. However，sometimes we students compare one another with marksdirectly. We are completely controlled by marks. We like them and we feel sorryfor them. But what attitude towards our marks should we take?

　　Truly，marks functions cannot be underestimated. In terms of test in ourstudy，marks are fair and real. That is the reason why we say "Everyone is equalbefore marks. "

　　However，I think marks are the sole standard to judge the success or failureof students in exams. Sometimes，marks more than ten or less than one or two inour exams comparing with others mean not everything. The success or failure inexams will be influenced by experience on the spot and the examinee’s healthetc. Once in a while one cannot fail in exams. " Success or failure is commonsense for military. " I think everyone is familiar with the famous saying. Don’tyou think such will be the case with our study? In exams，one cannot be "never-defeated general" . Once Ihappened to meet such a teacher as this .It is said that the teacher justgraduated from a far-famed key university. But his teaching result is much lessthan that of the one who just graduated from a not-well-renowned college. Whenlecturing，the teacher only repeated what the text-books says，which was verydull so the his students’ interest in learning was not aroused. His teaching wasshort of unity of teaching and learning. At present there is a fact that we knowa few brilliant and top college graduates are not qualified for their posts. Thereason for it may be lack of the ability to combine knowledge learnt from bookswith pragmatics in their work. Students of this kind will be successful in everyexam but they will be able to use freely their knowledge in their posts. Don’tyou think it waste training such persons for the country?

　　To sum up from the above，I can say marks are not absolutely authoritativefor some. If we neglect training and developing the students’ ability andcompetence and if we only seek for the high marks，we will be absolutely wrong.We should take an objective attitude towards the marks. Neither should weneglect them nor should we overvalue them like a God.
