Thank you for your welcome. It is good to see so manydistinguished representatives of theacademic community, government officials and the private sector. Thank you for coming together in support of the United Nations Academic Impact. China, and the city of Shanghai, is a fitting place for us to join forces. Innovation and change are all around us.
感謝各位的熱烈歡迎!很高興能見到這么多來自學(xué)術(shù)界的人士、政府官員和私營部門的代表。感謝各位的光臨，以及各位對“學(xué)術(shù)影響力研討會”的支持。中國尤其是中國的上海是我們攜手合作的理想地點。
At every turn, we see cutting edge ideas and technology … born perhaps in a college laboratory or a library… through the spark of a professor…the curiosity of a student…the dynamism of a classroom. Last year, I visited a state-of-the-art solar facility in Xi'an. I saw energy efficiency technologies that will help us to tackle climate change. But I saw something more: a mutually reinforcing partnership between global and national purpose, a melding of scholarship and entrepreneurship in the service of humankind.
我們的周圍時刻發(fā)生著變化，產(chǎn)生著新發(fā)明。無論在校園實驗室里，還是在大學(xué)圖書館中，教授們的思想火花，學(xué)生們的好奇善問，課堂的活力互動常常孕育出最前沿的理念與技術(shù)。去年，我去西安參觀了中國最先進的太陽能設(shè)備。那里的節(jié)能技術(shù)將有利于我們更好地應(yīng)對氣候變化。但是，我也從中發(fā)現(xiàn)了更多的訊息：中國正與國際加強雙方伙伴關(guān)系，將學(xué)術(shù)知識與企業(yè)家精神相融合，以更好地為人類服務(wù)。
Yesterday, I was honoured to take part in the closing of the Shanghai Expo. Before that I visited some of the remarkable pavilions. More than 70 million visitors witnessed an extraordinary display ofingenuity from China and the world. The Shanghai Expo may now be history, but we can carry on its spirit of openness, dialogue and exchange with the world. That is what draws us together. And that is what China itself has made a high priority. It plans to dramatically strengthen its education system at all levels.
昨天，我很榮幸地出席了上海世博會的閉幕式。在此之前，我訪問了許多場館，給我留下了深刻的印象。世博會開放期間，超過7000萬的參觀者通過場館目睹了中國以及世界其他國家卓越的技藝和精巧的構(gòu)思。上海世博會也許已經(jīng)成為歷史，但是我們可以繼續(xù)發(fā)揚其開放的精神，對話的精神，加強與世界的交流。也正是這些精神，使我們相聚在一起。中國，也在積極地追求這些精神。中國計劃全面完善地加強其教育體系。
The United Nations understands the enormous impact of scholarship, innovation and ideas. We are trying to harness that great power to build a better world… A world where human ingenuity will make our homes, communities and consumption patterns socially and environmentally sustainable. A world where research receives the funding and support it needs to defeat disease, deprivation anddespair . A world where the “unlearning” of intolerance will bridge barriers that still divide nations and peoples.
聯(lián)合國十分清楚知識、創(chuàng)新和理念的巨大作用。我們正努力利用這些巨大的能量來建造一個更美好的世界。在這個世界里，人類的聰明才智將發(fā)揮作用，我們將建造新型的家園、社區(qū) ，使用社會可持續(xù)發(fā)展和環(huán)境可持續(xù)發(fā)展的消費模式。在這里，人們將投入更多的資金，加大對研究的支持，努力消除貧困，減少饑餓，增強信心。在這里， 人們將更加寬容，分割不同國家與民族之間的壁壘將減少。
Promoting and advancing these goals is the essence of the United Nations Academic Impact. We have been laying the groundwork for this initiative for some time now, with great support from the academic community. Later this month, we will launch it officially at United Nations headquarters in New York.
本屆學(xué)術(shù)影響力國際研討會的核心便是推動這些目標(biāo)的實現(xiàn)。為了促成這個項目的展開，在學(xué)術(shù)界的支持下，我們已經(jīng)作了一些時日的準(zhǔn)備工作，奠定了基礎(chǔ)。本月末，我們將在聯(lián)合國總部紐約正式舉辦這個活動。
It will help serve as a clearing house to better match academic innovation with particular areas of work of the United Nations – neglected areas of research, countries in need of specific help, research that will help deliver concrete change on the ground, and the best ideas to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
將學(xué)術(shù)創(chuàng)新與聯(lián)合國工作的特定領(lǐng)域(卻被研究忽視的領(lǐng)域)，與需要特殊援助的相關(guān)國家，與能產(chǎn)生具體變化的研究，與實現(xiàn)2015年千年發(fā)展目標(biāo)的最好方式相結(jié)合，起到了“結(jié)算中心”的作用。
I am encouraged by the support demonstrated here. I have high hopes for what the initiative – and all of us – can do together in the future. Of course, the UN and the academic community already enjoy a strong partnership. Academic Impact will deepen it further for the twenty-first century.
在這里，大家的支持使我倍受鼓舞。我對這個項目，對所有人都寄予厚望，我們在未來可以攜手合作，共同面對。當(dāng)然，聯(lián)合國與學(xué)術(shù)界已經(jīng)建立了強有力的伙伴關(guān)系。“學(xué)術(shù)影響力”將在21世紀(jì)進一步加深這一關(guān)系。
International Conference on Remote Sensing Technology
Distinguished guests, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen, and all the friends:
At this special time of wonderful March, in this grand hall of the beautiful campus, Our respectable guests are here getting together . Jointly sponsored by China Remote Sensing Association, undertaken by Remote Sensing Institution of NUIST at Nanjing, the first International Conference on Remote Sensing technology , will be open. Now, First of all, please allow me to give our hearty welcome to all of you present, and thank you , for your friendly coming. We feel so proud, and appreciated as well to be the host of the event.
It is a great honor for us to have all you here to attend this conference, of which the theme is the academic exchange about the advanced technologies on RS. Here I’d be delighted to introduce our conventioneers in brief. Apart from our faculty and students, Most of the delegates and guests are prestigious experts and scientists, who are related in these fields from all over the world. With many significant achievements, they are the most dynamic leaders in the movements of the science and technology. As the host, I would like to take this opportunity to give you a general introduction about our school. Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST), founded in 1960 and renamed from Nanjing Institute of Meteorology in 2014, was designated in 1978 as one of the key institutions of higher learning in China. The university consists of 24 departments or colleges, 12 scientific research institutions and one international training center. The university, covering an area of 140 hectares with a floor space of 420000 square meters, boasts 42 basic and special laboratories such as Key Laboratory of Meteorological Disasters and Sino-American Remote Sensing Laboratory. With a total collection of over 1,170,000 books, the library was listed as one of the most completed literature libraries in China in terms of atmospheric sciences.
For this conference, we are following the agenda here. The meeting is supposed to last for three days，and to be separated into two parts. To begin with , we’ll invite some representatives from our guests to give lectures about their latest researches and reports on the issue, and then we will have some symposiums. During the conference we are pleased to be your guide to this city. If anything needed, don’t hesitate to contact us. We believe by our collaboration we are sure to make this gathering a consummation.
