　　1、絕大多數推薦信實際上是學生自己撰寫的，只要讓推薦人大筆一揮，簽上名字即可。

　　2、反正所有人的推薦信里都會夸夸其談，說被推薦人是如何如何優秀，我只要一樣照做就好了。

　　3、推薦信只是個形式，美國大學要不要錄取我，還是要看我的考試分數說了算。

　　殊不知這樣的心態，耽誤了多少“潛力股”的大好前程。推薦信在整個申請過程中，起著至關重要的作用，它是申請者自我營銷戰略里至關重要的部分，一篇過于平淡的推薦信，很可能成為你申請材料里的一處硬傷，讓你永無翻身之日。

　　本文，避免如中國政府外交辭令般“空洞”的言論，手把手教你如何準備大學申請時的推薦信，仔細閱讀它，你也可以成為大學推薦信方面的專家。

　　一、什么是“好”的推薦信?

　　一封好的推薦信，能夠通過列舉真實的，具有啟發性的事例或者描述申請人在某方面具備的潛力和特長，與其余申請材料配合，進而支撐整個申請定位。使申請人在眾多與自己條件相當，甚至比自己條件更優秀的申請群體中脫穎而出。但要注意，單單靠一封好的推薦信，很難達到被美國優秀大學錄取的目的，推薦信講究的是“與其余申請材料的呼應和配合”。

　　舉例：申請者a和b具有同樣優秀的成績和背景，但c大學面臨只能從a和b中錄取一名學生的窘境。a和b都將自己定位為“善于觀察，樂于助人并且具有領導才能的人”。并且都在申請短文中做出了體現。這時候，輪到推薦信出場了。

　　a的推薦信如下：“做為校長，我可以肯定的告訴您，a是我見過的最優秀的學生之一，她不僅成績優異，而且善于觀察，時常幫助需要她的同學，她還是我見過的非常有潛力的學生領袖。”

　　b的推薦信如下：“通過他的標準化成績，我想各位已經清楚的看到他在學習上多么優秀，我在此不再累述。我想告訴錄取委員會一件b給我留下深刻印象的事情。20XX年，我們學校舉辦50周年校慶晚會，做為最值得信任的學生干部，老師們都同意此次活動交給b來組織，但是令我驚訝的是：b主動跑來找我，告訴我這件事情應該交給x同學。在我眼中，x向來是一個不善言辭的學生。但b說服了我，告訴我說：“x同學其實非常有創意，但因為他天性內斂，所以不敢表達自己，時常顯的不自信，這次活動，是重塑x同學自信的大好機會。”我聽取了他的意見，晚會舉辦的非常成功。我知道，在這個過程中，b投入了大量的精力，在幕后做了大量的工作，但他把榮譽都給了他的同學。這是一個多么善于觀察，樂于助人而且有領導才能的孩子啊!

　　二、大學錄取材料里為什么必須包含推薦信?招生官希望從推薦信里得到什么信息?

　　自己對于自己的評價難免不夠“客觀”，推薦信的作用，在于招生官希望能夠從第三方的角度，客觀的了解申請者的情況。通常來說，招生官希望從推薦信里了解到的信息包括但不限于：

　　1、你在申請材料里講述的是否都是事實

　　如果你的活動列表里完全沒有任何參加公益活動的內容，你的推薦信里卻提到你是一個熱衷公益，十分有社會責任感的人，這就不免讓招生官產生疑惑;如果你從來沒有提到你在音樂方面有天賦，你的推薦信卻告訴招生官你的鋼琴比莫扎特彈的還好，這就是個笑話。

　　2、你的成就是否足以給別人留下深刻的印象

　　有些話自己說合適，有些話則是別人說合適。“謙遜”一直是中華民族的傳統美德，我想很少有學生會在申請文書里讓自己鋒芒畢露。推薦信則提供了塑造你形象的大好機會。別人對你的褒獎往往更客觀，更可信。

　　3、為申請材料中的“疑點”提供解釋的機會

　　張同學在gre考試中取得了1500分的好成績，可他在學校數學課的平均成績只有80分，這不免會讓招生官覺得張同學不過是在考試中運氣好而已。可是如果他的數學老師在推薦信中告訴招生官，張同學選修的數學課都是大學里開設的最難的課程，而他又是整個學校給分最嚴的老師，在他的課上，學生的平均分只有60。那么情況則完全不一樣了。

　　4、對申請文書的內容做補充

　　這對于高中申請本科的同學尤其適用。推薦書中，有一個小文書是非常難于處理的，那就是“在你列出的活動中，哪一項對你最有意義，為什么?”這篇文書僅限150字。你會不會因為篇幅不夠而感到苦惱?會不會因為沒有寫出你自己的全部想法而感到遺憾?這個時候，推薦信會是一個很好的補充。

　　5、為招生官客觀的評價你提供全面的背景信息

　　中國的國情是特殊的。你費盡九牛二虎之力，考入了省重點高中，遺憾的是，你在這批學生中只能排名中等。這個時候，如果你不能在推薦里說明你們的學校是如何優秀，大概只有全省1%的尖子學生才能進入此高中，因此你雖然排名中等，但是你依然是最有競爭力的申請者，那么你就喪失了讓招生官客觀評價你的大好機會。
