1. be used to

(1). be used to do sth. 被用來做某事.

This computer is used to do the accounts. 這臺電腦用來算帳.

(2). be/ get used to (doing ) sth 習慣于(做)某事.

You will soon get/ become used to the life here. 不久你就會習慣這里的生活的

我習慣于早起. I am used to getting up early.

(3). used to do sth 過去常常做某事.

我過去通常騎自行車上學. I used to go to school by bike.

persuade vt 說服; 勸服 persuasion n說服; 勸服

persuade sb to do (into doing sth) 說服某人做某事

persuade sb not to do (out of doing) sth 說服某人停止做某事, 勸阻

她終于說服了她兒子去上大學. She finally persuaded her son to go to college.

He persuaded me out of the idea of dropping the experiment.

他勸服我打消了中斷試驗的想法.

(注意) persuade 表示 “已勸服”, 強調動作的結果; 如果表示勸說某人做某事, 未必獲得

成功, 則應說advise sb to do sth 或try to persuade sb to do sth.

(復習 advise和suggestion的用法.)

3. lie vi 撒謊 n 謊言, 謊話

Facts never lie. 事實從不騙人.

Lies cannot cover up facts 謊言掩蓋不了事實.

4. lead vt 過(某種生活); 領導; 引導

(聯想) lead /led/ n 鉛; (鉛筆中的)鉛心

leader n 領導者

leading adj 第一位的; 主要的; 最重要的

(拓展) lead a …life 相當于 live/ have a … life 過著……的生活

lead to 通向; 導致 (to是介詞)

lead sb to do sth 導致某人做某事.

5. intended adj (為…而) 打算的/ 設計的

be intended to do sth 打算被用來………(被動)

intend sb/ sth to do sth 打算使某人做某事 (主動)

intend to do sth 想做某事, 打算做某事

be intended for 為…而打算/ 設計的

He intends to study abroad next year. 他打算明年到國外學習

He intends his son to manage the company. 他打算讓兒子經營公司.

This dictionary is intended for children. 這本字典是給小孩用的

6. recommend vt 推薦

(1) 推薦; 推舉; 介紹

I recommended him for a post 我給他介紹了個工作

Recommend sb as a good cook 推薦某人說他是個好廚師

Can you recommend a good dictionary to me? 你能向我介紹一本好的詞典嗎?

(2) 勸告; 建議

I recommend that you inquire about the job. 我建議你打聽一下這項工作

The doctor recommended the patient to take his advice. 醫生勸病人接受他的忠告.

7. up to (1) 多達 (2) 直到, 不多于 (3) 正在忙于某事 (4) 由…來決定 (5) 可與某事物相

比較 (6) 能勝任
