travel 泛指旅行`游歷,是旅行的最普通的用語,但無路程的含義

make a long journey from Beijing to Xi ‘ning 從北京到西寧的一次長途旅行

鷅e going to do sth. 打算做某事,也可用來表示很可能發生的事或自然現象

17.can / could 和 see,feel,smell 等表示感覺的動詞連用具有正在進行的意義.

動詞see hear feel和smell 在表示通過感覺獲得信息這一無意識動作時,常不用進行檢查時,而是用

情態動詞can / could 與它們連用,以表示此時此刻正具有的某種感覺.例如,

a Our guide is cooking supper ---- I can smell it .

b All night long I can hear the strange sounds of wild birds and animals .

c We can see them flying along the river . d I can feel something crawling up my leg .

e When I got off the train , I could smell the sea .

f Can you see someone walking up and down by the river ?

[注意]: 當這些動詞表示有意識的主動動作時,也可以用進行時,表示一個正在進行的動作.

Compare:

A I’m feeling fine .鶥 Why are you smeeling the meat ? Is it bad ?

I can feel the house moving . I can smell the bad smell coming from the meat .

I feel we shouldn’t do it .鶷he meat smells bad .

The cloth feels soft .

18. when用作并列連詞

when并不總是引導一個時間狀語從句，它許多時候可用來連接兩個并列分句。

這樣用時，when前可用逗號。也可不用逗號。

When 不能譯作“當……時”，而應看作是說明前一分句的時間，表示“正在那時”、“這時”，引起一個

意想不到的動作。

▲句型be just about to do．．．when..．表示“正要做……這時(突然)….

① I was just about to go swimming when luckily our guide saw me and stopped me．

我正要下水游泳，這時，我們的向導看到了并攔住了我。

②1 was just about to start when it began to rain． 我正要出門，這時天突然開始下雨了。

▲be doing.．．when．．． 表示某個動作正在進行，這時另一個 動作意想不到地發生了。

③Tom was walking bythe river when a dog jumped at him． Tom正在河邊散步,這時突然一條狗朝他撲來。

④1 was reading when the light went out．我正在看書，這時燈突然滅了。

▲had (not)done。．．when．．．表示某個動作剛開始或持續沒多久，這時另一個動作突然發生了。

⑤ We had just begun our work when the machine broke down． 我們剛開始工作，這時機器突然出故障了。

⑥I hadn't been asleep for long when the baby began to cry .我沒睡多久，這時嬰兒開始哭了。

19. separate :(1)separate作為形容詞時，意為“個別的”，“單獨的”。例：

①I want a separate room．②Cut it into three separate parts，

(2)separate作為及物動詞，往往用于這個詞組：separate A from B此詞組意為“把A與B分開(隔離)”。例：

鶷hey separated the Blacks from the Whites．

(3)separate作為不及物動詞，意為“分離，分開， 分散，分手”。例：

①His father and mother separated when he was only two years old．

③We didn't separate until two o'clock．③We should never separate from the masses我們絕不應該脫離群眾。

Cf. divide 把整體分為若干部分，破壞了整體性。Separate b把在一起的或靠近的人或物分離開來，并不破壞整體性。Our class is divided into nine groups.
