六. 語法重點 (Grammar Focus)----- Attributive Clause (定語從句)

1. 請對比下面兩個短語

a. a lovely girl 一個可愛的女孩 在這個短語中，lovely是形容詞做定語來修飾名詞girl.

b. a girl who likes purple 一個喜歡紫色的女孩 who likes purple 是一個句子來修飾名詞girl，它的作用與lovely相同，都是做定語修飾名詞girl，我們把它稱為定語從句。

請注意，形容詞做定語修飾名詞，一般放在名詞之前；而從句作定語修飾名詞，則要放在名詞之后。下面我們具體了解定語從句。

2. 在復合句中修飾名詞或代詞的從句叫做定語從句。被定語從句修飾的名詞或代詞叫做先行詞。引導定語從句的詞稱為關系詞，有關系代詞和關系副詞兩類。在本單元中，我們只涉及到關系代詞。

例如： I like music that I can dance to. 我喜歡可以隨之跳舞的音樂。

music是先行詞，that I can dance to 是定語從句修飾 music ，其中，that 是關系代詞引導定語從句。

又如I prefer singers who can write their own songs. 我喜愛能自己寫歌的歌星。

singers 是先行詞，who can write their own songs是定語從句修飾singers, 其中，who是關系代詞。

3. 結構比較

（1）人（n.）+ who +從句

比較：一位漂亮的女孩 a beautiful girl beautiful是形容詞做定語

a girl who is beautiful 從句做定語 (girl是先行詞)

（2）物（n.）+ that + 從句

比較：一本有趣的書 an interesting book 形容詞做定語

a book that is interesting 從句做定語 （book是先行詞）

4. 關系代詞who / that的作用：

a. 做代詞, 代替先行詞

b. 在從句中擔任句子成分:主語或賓語

c. 做連詞, 把主句和從句連接起來

who hat在從句中可擔任: 1.主語 2. 賓語

（1）I love singers who write their own songs.

who在從句中用作主語。

（2）He is the man who I met yesterday.

who在從句中用作賓語。

（3）I like music that I can dance to.

that在從句中用作賓語。

（4）I prefer a sandwich that is really delicious.

that在從句中用作主語。

6. who/that在定語從句中做主語時，謂語動詞的單復數應與先行詞保持一致.

e.g. I prefer shoes that are cool.

I like a sandwich that is really delicious.

I love singers who are beautiful.

I have a friend who plays sports.

7. 定語從句的關系詞與其他從句的引導詞的區別

試比較： I like music that I can dance to.

The music is great because you can dance to it

that 與because 的區別：that是定語從句的關聯詞，代替music在從句中做dance to 的賓語。而because是原因狀語從句的引導詞，只起到連詞的作用，在句中不做成分。在dance to 后面加it 指代music.

七. 疑難解析 (Key points)

1. How to write a review of a book , a CD, or a movie 如何寫書評或影評

A review should contain four parts:

(1) The name of the book, the CD or the movie 給出評論的對象。

(2) What you like and the reason 贊同之處及原因

(3) What you dislike and the reason不喜歡的地方和原因

(4) What it reminds you of 它使你產生了哪些回憶。

e.g. Recently I listened to a CD named Dance, Dance, Dance. { part 1 }

The music is great because you can dance to it . You can take this to a party. Also, these musicians write their own lyrics. { part 2 }

Some songs are too long. Some of the singers don’t sing the words clearly. { part 3 }

The music reminds me of Brazilian dance music.{ part 4 }

學習寫評論是這一單元中重點寫作項目，在評價的同時要注意結構的完整。

2. prefer v. 更喜愛，更喜歡 choose sth rather than sth else; like sth better.

（1）prefer + n. e.g.

I prefer groups that play quiet and gentle songs.

我更喜歡演唱輕柔音樂的組合。

Jennifer prefers musicians who write their own lyrics.

(2) prefer sth to sth 比…更喜歡…

e.g. Which would you prefer, coffee or milk?

咖啡和牛奶，你喜歡哪一個？

I prefer milk to coffee. 與咖啡相比，我更喜歡牛奶。

I prefer walking to cycling. 我喜歡步行，不喜歡騎自行車。

（3）prefer to do sth 寧愿做某事

e.g. She prefers to be alone at home. 她寧愿獨自在家。

6. Sth is/are important to sb 某事對某人很重要

e.g. That’s not really important to me. 那對我而言并不重要。

It is important for sb to do sth. 做某事對某人來講很重要

e.g. It is important for me to have a good sleep every night.

7. He’s made some great movies over the years. 這些年來，他已經拍攝了多部精彩的影片。

’s made = has made 為現在完成時態。

over the years 意思是“多年來”

8. It does have a few good features, though. 然而它的確有些優點。

does 在句子中表示強調,意思是“真的，的確”。如果省略，原句可寫成 It has a few good features, though.

e.g. As you know, I do like that car very much.

如你所知，我真的喜歡那輛小汽車。

though

（1）adv. 副詞，用于口語中，in spite of this; however; 意思是 ‘盡管如此，然而’，放在句尾。

（2）e.g. I expect you’re right---- I’ll ask him ,though.

我認為你說得對--- 我去問問他也好。

She promised to phone. I heard nothing, though.

她答應要打電話來，但我沒聽到回信兒。

（3）conj. 連詞，although; despite the fact that 意思是“雖然，盡管”，放在句首或句中, 不與but連用。

e.g. She won the first prize, though none of us had expected it.

她得了頭獎，雖然這件事我們都沒想到。

9. be sure to do sth 肯定要做某事的；一定要做某事的

e.g. It is sure to rain. 肯定要下雨。

You’re sure to fail if you do it that way. 如果你那么做肯定要失敗的。

10. Over the years, we’ve seen musical groups with pretty strange names come and go.

人生就是這樣，有的人一開始使鋒芒畢露，讓別人首先看到，得到重用和關注。而有些人在成長的道路上，往往會遭遇種種挫折，他的各個方面都很平庸，被別人輕視和看低。這很像一個爆竹，總有一個時候它會騰空而起，引信短的，它首先在空中炸響，而引信長的，則需要等待才能聽到爆竹聲。

引信長的爆竹，它在等待火種到來的時刻，往往讓人難以發現它的熱烈。但是，只要給它時間，你就會等到它給你帶來的意外驚喜。

人生在世，你要相信自己是一個爆竹，如果你離成功尚遠，那么請相信，你的引信比別人長。只要時間，只要努力，只要讓生命不停地燃燒，你就會在空中炸出最響亮的聲音。
