stand by

stand out（from）

辨析athlete與sportsman

athlete指運(yùn)動員，從事體育運(yùn)動的人，強(qiáng)調(diào)身體健碩的人。

如：He is real athlete. 他的實(shí)力真是名不虛傳。

Sportsman也指運(yùn)動員，但更強(qiáng)調(diào)職業(yè)，強(qiáng)調(diào)精神。

如：He is a real sportsman. 他才配是真正的運(yùn)動員。

athletic adj. 健碩的，運(yùn)動員般的

sportsmanlike adj. 有體育道德的，有風(fēng)格的

gold adj. 金的，金制的 n. 金子

golden adj. 金子般的，金色的

辨析gold與golden

gold指金制的，如：gold watch，gold pen等

golden指金子般的，如：golden opportunity，golden hall，golden rules等

final n. 決賽

half / quarter final 半決賽/四分之一決賽

shoot v. 射擊

shot n. 射擊，投擲

would rather do than do 寧愿…也不愿…

辨析：join，join in，take part in與attend

join是become a member of的意思，即成為某組織的一員

如：He joined the Party three years ago.

join in是參加某活動之意，且此處亦可用join，且此處與take part in意義基本相同

Would you please join（in）/ take part in the game?

Would you like to join us in a walk?

attend則譯為出席，一般指出席會議等。

如：He will attend the meeting.

competitor n. 競技者，競爭者

compete v. 競技，競爭

competitive adj. 競爭的，有競爭力的

competent adj. 勝任的，能干的，

rank v. / n. 定級，定銜，軍銜，身份

辨析：prepare與prepare for

prepare是準(zhǔn)備的意思

如：The teacher is preparing a test.

prepare for是為…而做準(zhǔn)備

如：We are preparing for the coming test.

effect n. 效果，效用

have an/no effect on（一般用于不可數(shù)，但可以加an）

put sth. into effect

take effect

of / to no effect

in effect

effective adj. 有效用的，實(shí)際的

affect v. 影響，感動

affecting adj. 感人的

affected adj. 受感動的

weight n. 重量 v. 稱重

weigh v. 稱重

skill n. 技能，技巧

辨析skilled與skillful

skilled意思是訓(xùn)練有素的，熟練的，有經(jīng)驗(yàn)的

如：Only skilled workers can do this job.

skillful的意思是熟練的，表現(xiàn)技巧的

如：He is a skillful musician.

gesture n. 手勢，姿勢 v. 擺姿勢，做手勢示意

（一）課文重難點(diǎn)

Every four years…

英語中表示“每…”用every…~s

如：每5天/每隔四天，every 5 days或every fifth day；

Many of the sports were the same as they are now.

比較狀語從句中，as，than的后面的從句中用動詞的不同時(shí)態(tài)表示與以前，過去及將來相比。

Some of the games in which the young men competed were……

介詞+which的定語從句，注意此句中compete的用法。

They were held in Greece-the country in which the Games were born

注意：奧運(yùn)會Olympic Games永遠(yuǎn)以復(fù)數(shù)形式出現(xiàn)

注意：ranking在此處做伴隨狀語，注意rank的詞組，rank sb. sth.（給某人定為…身份，頭銜）和sb. rank sth.（某人處于…身份頭銜）

構(gòu)詞法，名詞賓語+doing合成形容詞

To make it the ever best Games……

注意此處的ever的用法和意義，此處用ever修飾最高級best，且此處的ever當(dāng)永遠(yuǎn)，有史以來講。這一點(diǎn)從ever構(gòu)成的合成詞中也可以見到，如：ever-green（長青的）

將來進(jìn)行時(shí)，表示將來某時(shí)正在做某事。

light sth. 點(diǎn)燃，注意light的形容詞lighted和lit

首先它們都是light的過去式和過去分詞，但它們作形容詞時(shí)的用法不太相同，

如：The candle was lit/lighted.

a lighted candle

由此不難看出lit和lighted都可以用于表語，而只有l(wèi)ighted才能用于定語。

（二）WORKBOOK重難點(diǎn)

…France will be represented by three fencers.

注意represent一詞，有“代表”的意思，且多用于被動語態(tài)。

Matches will be won or lost in a matter of seconds.

注意此句中matter的用法，matter有“事情，事情的核心”的意思，如：It’s not a matter of money, but a matter of time.
