本單元最重要的一個語法項目之一就是名詞復數，名詞又分為可數名詞和不可數名詞，可數名詞有單、復數之分，表示一個人或事物的名詞用單數，表示兩個或兩個以上人或事物的名詞用復數，其構成方法、讀音及例詞語音列表如下：

2. 介紹人和詢問人
△在Unit 2中，我們學習了指示代詞this / that用來指代物品，在本單元中，我們將學習指示代詞指代人。當向別人介紹某人時，常用句型。
（1）This is … That is …用于介紹單個的人（見Starter Unit 2）。
（2）These are … Those are … 用于介紹兩個或兩個以上的人。如：These are my grandparents.
△this與that還可以用于打電話，（詳解見Starter篇）。
△詢問人時除了用指示代詞this，that，these，those外，還可以用人稱代詞，如she, he, 但要注意答語。
Is this / that ...？的回答用it替代this 和that。
如Is this your sister? Yes, it is.
當用人稱代詞詢問人時，回答仍應用人稱代詞。
如：Is he your brother? Yes, he is.
詢問人物時還可用Who’s this / that? 句型。回答時主語用it，也可仍用this或that。（詳見Starter篇）如：
“Who’s this? ”“It’s Diana.”“這位是誰？”“這位是黛安娜。”
“Who’s that boy? ”“It’s Jack, my brother.”“那個男孩是誰？”“他是杰克，我的弟弟。”
3. these, those和they的用法
these這些，是this的復數，是指時間和空間離說話人較近的人或物；those（那些）是that的復數，指時間或空間上離說話人較遠的人或物，通常構成以下句型：
These / Those are my / his / her bags.
這些/那些是我的/他的/她的書包。
What are these / those? 這些/那些是什么？
They are books（They’re books）. 是書。
Are these / those maps? 這/那些是地圖嗎？Yes, they are. 是的。
No, they aren’t. 不是的。
4. 人稱代詞
英語中有一類代替具體人名的詞叫人稱代詞。它有一、二、三人稱與單數、復數及性別之分（以后我們會了解到人稱代詞還有主格與賓格之分，在這里不做解釋）
人稱代詞列表如下：

（1）Who’s Kate? 凱特是誰？
She’s my friend. 她是我的朋友。
注：she代替上文中的Kate，而不能再用Kate來重復回答：Kate is my friend.

注：he代替前句中的李雷。
（3）Look at that bird. It is Polly.
看那只鳥，它是波利。
注：it代替前句中的that bird。
（4）Who’s it?（門外有敲門聲）誰呀？

5. thanks for表示“對……表示感謝”
△thanks for與thank you一樣，也是禮貌的用語，在接受別人的幫助，得到別人贊揚，表示謝意時使用。至于要感謝的內容，可以接在for的后面。如：
Thanks for the great photo of your family.
謝謝你家庭的精美相片。
句中great相當于good或nice，其含義是漂亮的“好的”。
Thanks for your help.
感謝你的幫助。
Thanks for the nice day.
感謝這個好天氣。
△我們同樣可以說Thanks for sth. / for doing... 或Many thanks for sth. / for doing...
Thank you very much for coming to my birthday party.

6. family表示“家庭，全家人”
△family 與class（同學們）一樣是集合名詞，既可以看成單數，也可看成復數，要根據具體情況而定。指“一個家庭”時，視為一個整體，用作單數名詞，謂語動詞用單數，如：
My family is very large.
我家是個大家庭。
△family指全體家人時，意思是“家庭成員”，視為復數名詞、謂語動詞用復數，如：
His family are all happy.
他的家人都很高興。
△family作家人講時，不包括說話者本人，應說：
my family and I 我的家人和我
7. a photo of...一張……的照片
photo是“照片”的意思，picture也可以作“照片”解，所以可代替句中的photo。picture除作“照片”解還有“圖畫”“電影”等別的意思。photo的復數是直接加-s，構成photos。當我們說a photo / picture of ...時，of后面的人或物就是照片中的人或物。如：
a photo of my parents 一張我父母的照片
a photo of me 我的一張照片
8. Here is my family photo.
這是一張我們全家的照片。
這一句也可以說成Here is a photo of my family. Here is...可縮寫成Here’s...，這是一個倒裝句。指讓對方看一個眼前或手頭的東西，也可用于給對方一個手頭的東西。這種情景中，常用句型Here’s...，這里Here一般不用別的詞替換。如：
Here’s your English book.
你的英語書給你。
Here are pictures of our school.
這些是我們學校的照片。
9. parent和parents
parent（單數）單指父親father或母親mother
parents（復數）指雙親father and mother
例如：My parents love me very much.
我的父母很愛我。
10. See you.
表示“再見”，常用于兩個人很快又會再見面的情景。類似的表達還有：See you soon. / See you later.
11. like 與love
△I love them very much.
我非常愛他們。
love和like的意思差不多，都有“喜愛”的意思，但指愛一個人時用love和用like在程度上不太一樣。love在愛的程度上要超過like，like強調“喜歡”。在喜歡事物時兩者區別不大。如：
I love my parents.
我愛我父母。
I like / love my little brother.
我喜歡/愛我小弟弟。
諺語：Love me, love my dog. 愛屋及烏。
12. very 與very much
△very much 是個固定短語，表示“非常”，常用來修飾一個表示人的情感的動詞，在句中作狀語。如：
Thank you very much.
非常感謝你。
I like it very much.
我非常喜歡這個東西。
△very是個副詞，可修飾一個形容詞或另一個副詞，但不能修飾動詞。如：
The picture is very good.
這幅畫很好。
That’s a very good school.
那是所非常好的學校。
13. mother, father和dad, mum
mother、father用于正式場合，是子女對父母比較正式的稱呼；dad、mum比較隨便親切，是口語化的表達方式，特別是孩子比較喜歡用。
14. home, house and family
這組詞都有“家”的意思，但是含義上有所不同。
（1）home指家庭成員在一起生活的地方，如：家、家鄉、本國；
home可用作副詞，意思是：到家、回到家里、回國。Is he home yet? 他已經回家了嗎？
（2）house主要指建筑物、住宅
He stayed at his friend’s house.
他（暫時）住在朋友家里。
（3）family指家中成員或子女
Tom is the eldest of the family.
湯姆是子女中最大的一個。

根據家庭相片介紹家人。
