Unit 22 The Sports Meeting

3. Revise the language of expressing wishes, congratulations and their responses; the way to show regrets and sympathy.

1. Read all the dialogues and texts 3 times and have one of your parents sign his/her name. Group leader checks the next day.
2. Duty tasks: a. Prepare an English Song for your classmates to learn.
b. Lesson 85: collect names of sports events.
c. Report on our school’s sports meeting this year.
d. Act out the dialogue of lesson 88.
e. Free talk on my favorite sport.
3. Copy the new words of this unit.
4. Group tasks: a. Discussion on the purposes of holding a sports meeting or doing sports.
b. A news interview about the school’s sports meeting.

1. Duty task: group H from class 11 and group B from class 12.
Step2. Revision (20min)
1. Revise the use of pronouns and do the exercise in the slide.
2. Do you know what is a compound sentence and a conjunction?
Can you give some sentences with “and”, “but”, “or”, and “so”?
3. Quick writing (orally).
4. Check Ex2 on the page 99 and Ex6 on page 101.
5. Duty task 5: watch the students on duty to do the task in Ex5 on page 101.

No 14th Middle School held a sports meeting on the play ground. Did you ever take part in a sports meeting? How many different sports events/names for sports do you know?
Now the student on duty will give a report on the sports events.

Show the picture of a relay race, a stick. There are usually 4 runners/players on each team, so relay race is a team race.

1. Ask someone to retell the story.
2. Summary of the language points in the reading text.
3. Look at the pictures and learn “as… as”, copy the tape and let the Ss compare the two students. àx times as … as

“rather” is often in negative meaning and quite is often used in positive meaning.
He can speak English quite well, but he did rather badly in this exam.

Step3. Read and act in Lesson 88
1. Ask the students to read the first dialogue and answer these questions:
Who took part in the girls’ 400 meters according the dialogue? Wei Hua and Sun Meiying.
How do people know about the result of the race? Mr Wu told them through the loudspeaker.

3. Sentence-making Game: Crazy Minute-one group gives as many comparison sentences as they can in one minute. Each member must give one and only correct sentences count.
Step4. Practice
1. Each group gives a play discussing the results of two races or sports games, the players won one and lost the other. Other group members can either congratulate or comfort them. 3 minutes are given.
2. 2 plays can be shown.
3. Tongue Twister: One-one was a race-horse, Two-two was one, too; One-one won one race and Two-two won one, too.

1. Write down the dialogue made by your group in the Writing book. Use indirect speeches at least 3 times.
2. Group work: draw a picture of track and field; write down the names for each event just at the place where it is held. Draw another picture of human body with name for body parts.
