1. alone此詞的關(guān)鍵是要把握住與其相似詞lonely的區(qū)別。

　　alone adj.& adv. “單獨的; 獨自地”

　　lonely adj. 修飾人時，意為“寂寞的”；修飾物時，意為“荒涼的；人煙稀少的”。如：

　　The old man lived alone on the lonely island, and he felt very lonely.老人獨自一人住在荒島上，他感到很孤獨。

　　alone放在名詞、代詞后時用作adj., 意為“單獨的； 獨一無二的”。如：

　　He alone knows the secret. 只有他一人知道這個秘密。

　　The key alone will open the door. 只有這把鑰匙能開這個門。

　　2. majority(常與of連用)“多數(shù)；半數(shù)以上”，謂語動詞單復(fù)數(shù)均可。如：

　　The majority is / are for the plan. 大多數(shù)人支持這個計劃。

　　The majority of children in the class have brown eyes; only three have blue eyes. 班里大多數(shù)孩子是棕色眼睛，只有三個是藍(lán)眼睛。

　　另有習(xí)慣用語：in the majority “擁有多數(shù)的；占多數(shù)的”。如：

　　We are in the majority. 我們是多數(shù)/占多數(shù)。

　　3. widely adv. “廣泛地”

　　另外，wide 除了作形容詞外也可作副詞，如：a wide street寬闊的街道； wide interests 廣泛的興趣； open one's eyes wide 睜大眼睛。相類似的還有high / highly; close / closely等。它們的區(qū)別是：以ly構(gòu)成的副詞多表示抽象意義，而不加ly的副詞表示的含義比較具體。如：

　　James always holds his head high.(高高地) / He spoke highly of her.(高度地)

　　He stood close against the wall.(接近地)/ We listen to the teacher closely in class.(仔細(xì)地)
