1. power n. 能力，力量；政權；權利 e.g. Knowledge is power. 知識就是力量.
e.g. The leader has the power to make a decision.
e.g. A new power station has been built. 這兒新建了一座發電站.

2．trick n. 可數名詞，“詭計，計謀” e.g. He got the money from me by a trick.
vt. trick sb into doing sth “用計誘使某人做某事” trick sb out of sth“騙某人東西”
e.g. She tricked him into marrying her.
He tricked the girl out of her money.

3．series n.“系列，連續”，單復數相同 a series of “一系列”

4．treat vt 1) 對待 treat ……as/like “把當作/像一樣對待”
e.g. They treated me as one of the family.
2) 治療 treat a disease/sb “治病/為某人治療”
e.g. The doctors were not able to treat this disease.
3) 款待，請客， 常用于 treat sb to (sth)這一結構，表示“以某物款待某人”
e.g. We will treat you to dinner. 我們請你吃飯
treat sb like dirt/a dog 視某人如草芥 be one’s treat 由（該）某人請客
5．in trouble 處于困境中，有麻煩
e.g. You’d better ask for leave, or you may be in trouble.
你最好還是去請假，否則你可能有麻煩.
與trouble 相關的常用搭配：
be a great trouble to sb 對某人來說很麻煩 ask for trouble 自找麻煩
have trouble (in) doing sth 做某事有麻煩 get into/out of trouble 陷入/擺脫困境
6. come across 1）“偶然遇到，碰到”，相當于find or meet by chance
eg. I came across him in the street yesterday.
當他遇到一個新的短語，他就把它記在筆記本上.

7．believe in 1）believe in sb：trust sb信任某人

9．shoulder n.肩膀
vt.肩負,承當 e.g. She shouldn’t shoulder all the blame for the mistake.
Teachers cannot be expected to all the responsibility for poor exam results.

11．with a scar on his forehead 是with的復合賓語結構，賓語補足語除介詞短語外，還有形容詞,副詞,過去分詞,不定式,---ing等.

12．as if“好像，仿佛”，引導表語從句或方式狀語從句，有時還可以接不定式.引導方式狀語從句時，從句謂語常用虛擬語氣.

He opened his mouth as if to say something.
When a pencil is partly in a glass of water, it looks as if it .

13．if only 在文中表示“但愿，要是…..就好了”，是對前面所述情況的一種假設，句子多用虛擬語氣；它還可以表示“只要…..”，引導條件狀語從句.
