② fill in…with… 用… 填滿 fill in the hole with sand.
③臨時代替(與for 連用) He filled in for chairman during the meeting.
8. specially 與especially的辨析
especially 的意思是“尤其；特別”，起突出強調的作用。specially 的意思是“專門，特地，特意”
I like all the subjects, especially English and maths.
I like the beauty of the countryside, especially when spring comes.
He came to the hospital specially to see me. / This book is specially written for children.
10. so + be/情態動詞/助動詞+ 主語 表示與前面所陳述的動作或狀態有著相同的肯定概念，其中so代表上文所陳述的動作或狀態，意為“也是一樣”。
① I study in this school and so______ my brother.
② ----It is warm today. -----So __________yesterday.
③ ----I have been to the Great Wall. ----- So__________ I.
④ ----I can swim across the river. -----So __________ I.
neither/nor + be/情態動詞/助動詞+ 主語 表示與前面所陳述的動作或狀態有著相同的否定概念，其中neither/nor代表上文所陳述的動作或狀態，意為“也不是”。
He hasn’t been to Guilin, _____________.(我哥哥也沒去過)
There is little water in this bottle, _______________________ (那個瓶子里也沒有水)
so + 主語+ be/情態動詞/助動詞 表示說話人對前面所述的話題加以肯定，意為“的確如此”，如，

② I thought they should finish the work before nine o’clock and _______________.
③ -----Your father said that your mother would buy you a present for your birthday.

主語+ do+ so “照辦”

11. too much和 much too的辨析
too much 可以做狀語，表語和定語；much too 則一般修飾形容詞和副詞，

5. success n. succeed in doing (=be successful in doing/ manage to do)
Success comes out of failure./ He is a success as a writer./What a big success the meeting is.
They succeeded in collecting the money needed for the rescue of the milu deer.
6. across 和through 的辨析
這兩個詞都是介詞,在表示穿越馬路的時候,前者表示橫跨,后者表示縱穿.
He was hungry when he found a restaurant opposite, so he walked _______ the road.
He walked _________ all the streets, looking for the lost child.
表示在表面穿越是用across, 表示在內部穿越時用through.
We can’t travel _________ the big forest without a compass.
7. desert n. 沙漠 vt. 拋棄；遺棄 He deserted his wife and children and went to the south
deserted adj. 廢棄的, 荒漠的(做定語形容詞) a deserted island/ a deserted garage.
有些及物動詞的過去分詞可以用做定語形容詞,表示被動的含義; 而其現在分詞也可以用做定語形容詞,表示主動的含義.

驚馬________________________ 讓人震驚的消息_______________
7. challenge n. ① invitation or call to take part in a game, contest, fight and so on 挑戰
They accepted a challenge that the two sides will have a match next month.
② difficult task 挑戰 It is a great challenge to finish the task within 3 days.
vt. Their team challenged ours to a football match next week.
8. in order to / so as to / so that 的辨析
三者都可以引導目的狀語，但是，前面兩個后接不定式，so that 接的是目的狀語從句。
①He studies hard in order to (=so as to) enter Tsinghua University in three years.
②In order to catch the first bus, he got up very early this morning.(此處不能用so as to 代替)
③You’d better put on your straw hat so that (in order that) the sun won’t burn you.
翻譯：為了上課不遲到，他不得不很早就起床。_____________________________________
合成句子：These plants are covered with grass. These plants won’t be damaged by frost(霜凍).
