（一）詞匯
1. permit, v. “允許”，permit sb. to do sth.，
如：Do you permit your children to smoke? 你準許你的孩子們吸煙嗎?
permit allow let 都含“準許”的意思。
1) permit 和 allow 在許多情況下可以通用, 但它較 allow 正式, 含有“積極地、從正面地允許”的意義, 即: permit語氣更強。如: They don’t permit you to smoke. 他們不允許你抽煙。
2) allow 指“并不反對”或“不加阻止”, 偏重“默許”或“聽任”, 含義較消極, 如: Each passenger is allowed twenty -five kilogrammes of luggage. 每位旅客允許攜帶二十五公斤的行李。
另須注意：allow doing sth. allow sb. to do sth.
3) let 是三個詞中最不正式的, 較口語化, 而語意最弱, 指“給予可能或同意”, 有時含“難以阻止或限制”之意, 如: Let him wait. 讓他等一等。

2) “停留，繼續待在某處”

If you take away 3 from 8, 5 remains.
9. give up，“放棄”，及物動詞短語，give up sth/doing sth,
give back 歸還; 送回;
give in 屈服, 投降, 退讓(to)，不及物動詞短語。
give off，“發出/放出（光、煙、氣味等）如：The wide flowers give off a nice smell.
give out，“分發”如：give out papers; “放出/發出（光、煙、氣味等）”，同give off.
10. be/get used to sth/doing sth，“習慣于……”，to為介詞。
used to do sth，“過去常常做……”，否定式簡寫為usedn’t to…或 didn’t use to…, 如：
We used to go there every year. 我每年都去那兒。
There used to be low and dirty houses. 那里曾是些矮而骯臟的房舍。
You must get used to getting up early. 你必須習慣于早起。
11. dislike，“不喜歡……”，動詞，常用dislike sth/doing…，如：She strongly disliked being spoken to like that. 她很不喜歡別人對她這樣說話。
unlike，“不像……”，作介詞或形容詞，如：She is unlike her mother; she is tall and her mother is very short. 她不像她媽媽；她很高，而她媽媽很矮。
For twins, they are very unlike. 作為一對雙胞胎，他們很不一樣

1) adv. 此外，還有。如：I don’t want to come out now, and besides, I must work. 我現在不想出去，而且我還得工作。
2) prep. 除…以外，還……，如：Besides milk and cheese, we need vegetables. 除了牛奶和干酪外，我們還需要蔬菜。
3) 與except區分：
We all went except John. 除了約翰外, 我們都去了。
I have five other books besides this. 除這本以外, 我還有五本別的書。
在否定句、疑問句中，besides 與except可換用。如：
We have no other dictionaries besides/except these.
