在一般現(xiàn)在時，主語是單數(shù)第三人稱時，謂語動詞的變化。

1 . but 但是

The sweater is nice , but it's too small .

They want to go there , but I don't .

We like playing football , but have no time .

〖 點撥 〗but 為并列連詞，表示意思上的轉(zhuǎn)折，連接兩個并列成份，當連接兩個并列分句時，后面分句中的有些詞可省略。漢語可說“雖然……但是……”，但英語中只能說一個：though……，……。或者……，but……。試比較：

Though she was ill , she went to school . = She was ill , but she went to school .

2 . cook 烹調(diào)，煮，燒

Who will cook the lunch today ?

She will cook you a delicious meal .

I'm going to cook all day tomorrow .

〖 點撥 〗cook還作“廚師，炊事員”。不要把 cooker 當成廚師，cooker 是炊具，如爐、鍋一類。do some cooking 做飯菜。

Are you a cook ? 你是炊事員嗎 ?

My father always does some cooking at weekends . 我父親總是周末下廚。

3 . housework 家務勞動

We do a lot of housework on Sundays .

She is good at housework . 她善做家務。

〖 點撥 〗housework 為不可數(shù)名詞。前面已經(jīng)學習過的homework (家庭作業(yè)) 也是不可數(shù)名詞。以后還會接觸到下面一些不可數(shù)名詞：news消息，advice建議，furniture家具，information信息……

4 . uncle 叔；伯；舅；姨父；姑父

Uncle Wang is watching TV .

Is Uncle Li a worker or a teacher ?

Uncle Chen , nice to see you . 陳伯伯，見到你真高興。

〖 點撥 〗一個舅an uncle。另外注意Uncle Wang“王叔叔”的英語和漢語在表達上的區(qū)別。

5 . machine 機器

What's wrong with the machine ? 這機器出了什么毛病 ?

There is nothing wrong with the machine . 這機器沒毛病。

〖 點撥 〗a washing-machine洗衣機。a sewing-machine縫紉機。

單元詞組思維運用

1 . not…at all 一點也不，完全不

He isn't a student at all .

They can't speak Chinese at all .

〖 提示 〗not…at all 用于否定句中，起強調(diào)作用，加強語氣。請注意 not at all 在單獨使用時的意思為“不用謝”，用于回答別人表示謝意時。如：

-Thanks a lot .

-Not at all .

另外，注意不要混淆了not a little (很，非常) 和not a bit的意思。試對比：

After walking so far , I am not a little tired . 走了這么遠的路，我很累。

Though I have walked so far , I am not a bit tired . 盡管走了那么遠的路，我一點也不累。

2 . like + doing喜歡干

I like swimming , but I don't like making things .

like doing sth 與 like to do sth 在意義上沒什么區(qū)別。不過，如表示一般的行為，用 v - ing 形式居多，如表示特定的或具體的動作，用 to do 居多。如 I like swimming . ( 我喜歡游泳，指一般情況下如此 ) ；I don't like to swim today . ( 我今天不喜歡游泳。特定日期 ) 。 ( 我今天不喜歡游泳。特定日期 ) 。

3 . like a bike / plane 像自行車 ( 像飛機 )

He wants to ride the machine like a bike and fly it like a plane . 他想騎上這部機器，既能像自行車一樣駕駛，又能像飛機一樣飛行。

He speaks English like an Englishman . 他講英語就像英國人一樣。

You are like my little daughter . 你像我的小女兒。

注意 like 的動詞用法與介詞用法。

4 . do housework 做家務

做很多家務活 do a lot of housework

單元句型思路明晰

生活中喜歡與愛好的表達：

主 + like / likes…very much / a lot , a little . …非常 ( 有點 ) 喜歡……

I like English very much .

He likes playing basketball a lot .

They like Chinese food a little .

Do you / they like… ? 你 ( 他們 ) 喜歡…嗎 ?

Do you like to swim at this time of night ?

Does she like doing housework ?

Do they like bananas ?

I / We , You , They don't ( He / She , It doesn't ) like…at all . 我 ( 我們，你，你們，他們 ) 根本不喜歡……

She doesn't like that book at all . 她根本不喜歡那本書。

I don't like milk at all . 我一點也不喜歡牛奶。

單元難點疑點釋疑

1 . a lot

a lot 意思是許多，非常。修飾動詞。例如：

We like our English teacher a lot .

They help us a lot .

2 . Mike doesn't like rice , bananas , eggs or bread . 邁克不喜歡 ( 吃 ) 米飯、香蕉、雞蛋和面包。or 是連詞，意思是“或者”。在否定句中表示并列關系時，常用 or 連接， 把連接的部分都否定掉，而不用 and。例如：

She doesn't like reading or writing . 她不喜歡讀書和寫字。

He has no brothers or sisters . 他沒有兄弟姐妹。

3 . Uncle Wang likes making things . 王叔叔喜歡制做東西。

He wants to ride the machine like a bike - and fly it like a plane ! 他想像騎自行車那樣騎機器 -- 像駕駛飛機那樣駕駛它飛。

第一句中的 like ( 喜歡 ) 是動詞。

第二句的 like ( 像……一樣 ) 是介詞。

例如：a . I like drinking tea . 我喜歡喝茶。

b . He makes faces like a monkey . 他像猴子一樣做鬼臉。

c . Like father like son .有其父必有其子。

4 . Not today . Come back tomorrow . 現(xiàn)在不行，或許將來行。

這是個省略句，全句應為 It can't fly today . But it will come back tomorrow . 句中 tomorrow 指的是“將來的某一天”、“總有一天”。

Violin Lessons

“ Daddy , can I learn to play the violin ? ” young Sarah asked her father . She was always asking for things and her father was not very pleased .

“ You cost me a lot of money , Sarah , ” he said . “ First you wanted to learn horse riding , then dancing , then swimming . Now it’s the violin . ”

“ I’ll play every day , Daddy , ” Sarah said . “ I’ll try very hard . ”

“ All right , ” her father said . ” This is what I’ll pay for you to have lessons for six weeks . At the end of six weeks you must play something for me . If you play well , you can have more lessons . If you play badly , I will stop the lessons . ”

“ O . K . , Daddy , ” Sarah said . “ That is fair . ”

He soon found a good violin teacher and Sarah began her lessons . The teacher was very expensive , but her father kept his promise .

The went to the living room and said , “ I’m ready to play for you , Daddy . ”

“ Fine , Sarah , ” her father said . “ Begin . ”

She began to play . She played very badly . She made a terrible noise .

Her father had one of his friends with him , and the friend put his hands over his ears .

When Sarah finished , her father said , “ Well done , Sarah . You can have more lessons . ”

Sarah ran happily out of the room . Her father’s friend turned to him . “ You’ve spent a lot of money , but she still plays very badly , ” he aid .

“ Well , that’s true , ” her father said . “ But since she started learning the violin I’ve been able to buy five apartments in this building very cheaply . In another six weeks I’ll own the whole building ! ”

注釋：violin 小提琴。pleased 高興的；滿意的。 cost 花費。fair 公平的。keep a promise 遵守諾言。terrible 可怕的。noise 噪音。own 擁有

單元語法發(fā)散思維

The Present Indefinite Tense ( 一般現(xiàn)在時 )

前面我們已經(jīng)講過一般現(xiàn)在時的概念及其非第三人稱單數(shù)主語的句型結(jié)構(gòu)。

下面我們分三種情況來研究主語是第三人稱單數(shù)的謂語構(gòu)成。

1 . 動詞 be 若主語是第三人稱單數(shù)用 is。

Tom is a boy .

2 . 動詞 have 若主語里第三人稱單數(shù)用 has。

He has a lot of books .

3 . 行為動詞。若主語里第三人稱單數(shù)，謂語動詞要在詞尾 + s 或 es。

He likes flying kite .

Mary gets up at 6 in the morning .

He files the kite every Sunday .

A. 認真閱讀短文后，完成所缺空格：

B. 用 and , or 或 but 填空
